The
Center for Epidemiological Studies on HIV/aids of Catalonia (CEESCAT)
was created in 1994, as an organ of the Department of Health and Social
Security (DSSS), with the objective to disclose the most excellent
information in relation to the magnitude and characteristics of the
epidemic of HIV/AIDS in Catalonia.
The surveillance on the HIV/AIDS, made by the CEESCAT, bases on three fundamental axes: the
monitoring of the morbi-mortality of the infection by HIV/AIDS, the
monitoring of behaviors related to the acquisition of the HIV infection
and the monitoring of the of antibodies anti-HIV determinations. But, to
present the maximum possible information, the Integrated System of
Surveillance (SIVES) not only includes the carried out projects directly
by the center, but that also incorporates information of others programs
from the DSSS (Programs of Sexual Transmitted Diseases and Tuberculosis
of the General Directorate of Public Health, Technical Organ of
Drug-dependencies and Mortality Registry of Catalonia of the General
Directorate of Sanitary Resources, Program of Sanguineous Donations of
the Sanitary Area of the "Servei Català de Salut" and
Sanitary Program of the Department of Justice), as well as information
generated by the Municipal Institute of Health of Barcelona (City
council of Barcelona).
