The
CEESCAT acts like reference’s centre responsible for the surveillance of
the HIV/AIDS epidemic, designing, implementing, analyzing and distributing
the necessary information systems for the monitoring of the epidemic in
Catalonia. The HIV/AIDS surveillance system made by the CEEISCAT bases on
three fundamental axes: the monitoring of parameters of morbidity and
mortality, the monitoring of behaviours related to the acquisition of the
HIV and the monitoring of the determinations of antibodies anti-HIV. But,
in order to present the maximum possible information, the annual report
(SIVES) directly includes not only the carried out projects by the centre,
but also incorporates information of other programs of the DSSS (The
Program of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Tuberculosis of the General
Direction of Public Health, Technical Department of Drug-addictions and
Registry of Mortality of Catalonia of the General Direction of Health
Resources, The Program of Blood Donations of the Sanitary Area of the
Catalan Health Service and the Health Program of the Department of
Justice), as well as information generated by the Municipal Public Health
Agency of Barcelona (City council of Barcelona). The results of these
lines of activity are annually published in the report "Integrated
HIV/AIDS Surveillance System of Catalonia" (SIVES).
